OpenOffice.org is everywhere...

Today, I was looking for a replacement of dialog(1) for X Window System. I finally found Xdialog. When I was looking for it using Google, I used exactly that search term. What I found was a reference to XDialog interface at api.openoffice.org. OpenOffice.org is everywhere.

Chart2 is a bit over-instantiated

Chart2 project is a real nightmare in cws_src680_ooo20040329. It is not part of OpenOffice alias in the CVS/modules, but also uses very strange tactics which makes my compiler (gcc 3.0.4) very unhappy. I have reported #i26518#. I have also attached temporary (read hack) fix to get further.

I have updated my build system accordingly. From the next build, we will also produce builds for Estonian OpenOffice.org community.

Going to sleep now with the hope it is fixed tomorrow ;-)

Compiling cws_src680_ooo20040329 branch

I'm just compiling cws_src680_ooo20040329 branch and I will note issues I realized during the compilation process in this entry.

The first issue was ant related, but because I already solved it in the past, I still have the patch for it in the tree, so no problem (#i23464#). The issue in IZ is FIXED but waiting for QA and merge.

Second issue is GTK. Hmm, it is not yet ready IMHO. configure doesn't check the presence of gtk headers, it is not possible to disable its build via configure etc. Thus I completely removed GTK and filed #i23463#.

The utility bmp still need X server connection, thus I reopened #i22981# because I'm using screen for builds.

The old JDK 1.3 incompatibility sneaked back in filter project, thus I fixed it again directly in CVS (#i25085#).

The last issue so far is that dbaccess/source/ui/browser/makefile.mk contains dependency on dbtreemodel.obj, but corresponding C++ file (dbtreemodel.cxx) is not tagged, it is only in Attic. I copied it from there and my build continues.

Do not forget to checkout chart2 module, it is not in OpenOffice alias right now.

And as always, watch out Bonsai for latest updates in cws_src680_ooo20040329.

Builds of RC2 started

I started building additional localizations for RC2. Versions for GNU/Linux and FreeBSD are already finished (FreeBSD is already on ftp.linux.cz).

The compilation on Solaris/SPARC is still running, but I had to restart the build on Microsoft Windows because of #i26435# (completely new code leaked in so I'm probably not using RC2 source 8). I hope it will be finished on Monday.

Compile Linux kernel with Intel's compiler?

Although Linux author, Linus Torvalds, says that the official kernel compiler is gcc, several people tried to compile Linux kernel with Intel's compiler. There are patches available. Several people interested in Intel's compiler even did a mini benchmark on kernels compiled with gcc. For the whole story, ready the thread in the archive of Linux kernel mailing list.

LKML was very interesting reading today, James Ketrenos announced Intel PRO/Wireless 2100 Driver for Linux aka wireless part of Centrino. Should you buy system with this hardware, do not forget to read terms and conditions for the firmware for the Intel PRO/Wireless 2100...

Favicon is finally back

OpenOffice.org

Just a small note if you have not registered it yourself: OpenOffice.org website got its favicon finally back. It was lost during update of the SourceCast software to the new version. Enjoy the small icon in the Location/URL bar :-)

T602 format support for OpenOffice.org

T602 filter for
OpenOffice.org T602 was the most used text processor in our country. Several companies still use it for their main activities.

Milan Brož announced UNO component that adds T602 format support to the OpenOffice.org and because I'm currently working for a company that still uses T602 on *many* of their systems, I thoroughly tested it and send results to our developers list.

I do not think that write support to T602 format is still needed, but it would be handy too.

Just found the best layout of my OpenOffice.org desktop

I'm writing many documents in OpenOffice.org those days. It is a good way to test what your users are really suffering from. But this blog entry is not about issues I realized during my work, it is about the layout of desktop I have chosen to use.

My OpenOffice.org desktop
The large document windows is at left side of the OpenOffice.org window. Both Stylist and Navigator are anchored at the right side of the window, Stylist (used more often) is at top, Navigator at the bottom. OpenOffice.org is maximized so it takes full screen of my small 11 inch laptop display.

Which layout do you use?

Czech extras fixed, another stopper found and confirmed

Today, I fixed Czech templates containing German strings in the headers and footers (in Print Layout) (#i26104#), (sadly) confirmed another regression from 1.1.0 (#i26215#) reported on IRC.

My current MyIssues list has 40 entries. There are still 9 list targeted to 1.1.1.

Upgraded blog software to CVS version

I have just finished upgrading the software behind this blog to CVS version. The upgrade went smoothly, my local hacks were solved properly in the new version thus I'm now running almost clean tree of Nanoblogger.

You should really consider looking at it, believe me.

Na poštách máme Linux (Czech)

Na poštách máme Linux Short English summary: the company Czech post uses Linux operating system based servers in their local offices in about 1100 locations.

Updated dictionaries for Czech language, patch for crash issue

Petr Kolář released new ispell-czech package. I have updated dictionaries for Czech language accordingly and put them at my server for testing.

Issue #i24978# was not fixed in-time for inclusion in 1.1.1 thus I have separated its fix from developers' CVS and will apply that change to our localized builds.
