Preparing the presentation for OOoCon 2005

Presentation in Nokia 9500 I'm getting mad, because I have a lot of work (real work ;-), we are just about to release release candidate for OpenOffice.org 2.0 and I have to prepare the presentation for OOoCon 2005 (are you already registered?).

You probably know the feelings in the time pressure ;-) I'm a bit distracted by everything else, so I decided to try uploading my current presentation to my phone. What is the result? Click on the thumbnail to see the complete image... -----

Today's news from Czech IT-related business

Two interesting news today. Czech post will remain as state-owned, public company. Do you remember the recent voting in Japan? ;-)

Do you want to collect toll payments in our country (read it as provide technology for it)? Only four companies participate in the public tender for the toll collecting system (10-15 were expected). This is not as interesting as offered price of the solution. They range from 15 to 33 billions CZK. My expectation was around 20 billions (not based on all facts). Good guess. -----

Building SRC680_m130 - statistics

I finished building SRC680_m130 on GNU/Linux and Microsoft Windows. I build for 32 languages now.

Build time on Windows was 1 day, 5 hours. On GNU/Linux, full build's time was 15 hours. Both systems are the same - Pentium IV, 2.8. Disk space: Windows's tree size is 17 G, Linux size was 18G. -----

Who is dropping Itanium now?

Itanium's death This is another anti-Itanium blog entry from my series...

Arstechnica's article says it clearly. Another company dropping Itanium processor support is Dell. -----

Today's work

I started builds of m130 (added Italian language on request ;-), helped to fix P1 in config_office (module unzip was deleted, but not from makefile.rc. Fixed by kz on master.), ported IZ feed to Sun Solaris and migrated it from my notebook to machine provided by Sun (I like non-GNU tools as much as .dylib on MacOS X ;-). Set it up to run via cron at 6am and 6pm my time.

Some IZ work (it was a real nightmare today - I had to log in at least 10 times!), we now have 17 issues with target 2.0. Rene and Volker promised to fix small build issues with target 2.0. There are also four MacOS X issues. I think we are on a good way to 2.0! -----

SRC680_m130 is ready

The milestone SRC680_m130 is finished. Child Workspaces integrated: ause038, mhu10 and swahilidict.

Child workspace ause038 removed module unzip, so remove it from your source trees.

A few hours after announcement, the tagging of the source code was incomplete (modules salhelper, ..., zlib were not tagged). It was already fixed by nightly consistency check, but we should find out, what was the reason of this. My guess is that the site had to be rebooted several times yesterday, because we have seen a lot of problems with CVS server:
Sep 15 10:47:50 <paveljanik> CVS through tunnel just told me:
Sep 15 10:47:53 <paveljanik> Fatal error, aborting.
Sep 15 10:47:53 <paveljanik> pjanik: no such user
...
Sep 15 10:49:06 <paveljanik> ... and the same command works now ;-)
Update: Right now, Fri Sep 16 08:38:28 CEST 2005, I have received this from CVS server:
cvs [update aborted]: unrecognized auth response from localhost: cvs pserver:
Invalid reply from auth server (3880) looking for (pjanik)
Update2: Right now, I have again received this from CVS server:
pavel@linux:~/.ooo/ooo_SRC680_m130_src/zlib> date -u; cvs -z9 up -r SRC680_m130 -dP; date -u
Fri Sep 16 07:06:26 UTC 2005
Fatal error, aborting.
pjanik: no such user
Fri Sep 16 07:06:27 UTC 2005
pavel@linux:~/.ooo/ooo_SRC680_m130_src/zlib>
and also IZ doesn't work - Software error: Can't connect to databaseissues.

I filed issue #i54678# for this problem so we can watch its status (hmm, how could I enter it if it doesn't work? Don't ask me ;-). -----

SRC680_m128 is ready

The milestone SRC680_m128 is finished. Child Workspaces integrated: buildstatushtml, c04v1, hr18, impress67, ivo10, l10nfix123 and oool10n20.

The most interesting one here is of course oool10n20. It contains updated translations and other l10n bug fixes.

Very interesting for builders is buildstatushtml. It adds two command line options for build command. They implement HTML status page report about the current build process. While you build, the HTML status page is updated on the fly and it refreshes itself so you can see how far in the build you are. Nice! I uploaded sample page here. -----

1.1.5 RC4 is uploaded. My build for GNU/Linux is also uploaded and Windows machine is still building (Update: build already finished, builds uploaded). -----

Now it is public: another postal service agency is about to implement GNU/Linux based system for their desktops. The first one was Česká pošta, s.p., Czech postal service agency.
