EU eGovernment policy-makers encourage the uptake of open document formats

eGovernment policy-makers from the 25 EU Member States on 25 May 2004 endorsed a set of recommendations promoting the use of open document formats by the public sector.

Update: another valuable reading is article on BBC UK where US FTC commissioner said: "But we have seen instances where companies use that monopoly in an anti-competitive way, sometimes to prevent other products from getting to market, to prevent people from sharing ideas and to prevent the kind of innovation that the patent system is really trying to spur on.".

Update 2:J.B. Nicholson-Owens told me it is in fact possible that two companies can own the same patent. Hmm ;-) -----
